OFFICIAL SAVANA RAE: MY UNDERWHELMING AFTERNOON TEA EXPERIENCE AT THE GRAND LONDON IN PICCADILLY

MY UNDERWHELMING AFTERNOON TEA EXPERIENCE AT THE GRAND LONDON IN PICCADILLY

It's been long due, it was time to meet a dear friend and she suggested we go to The Grand London in Piccadilly for an afternoon tea experience.

I was besotted when we reached the place and found how beautifully decorated it was for this Christmas season.

The windows and entrance of The Grand London were so majestically put together that if you were just passing by , you would be enticed to enter.

It had the typical Christmas feel you would see in an upscale New York Michelin star restaurant.

I was so excited in a way because I love a great afternoon tea experience.

Me and my friend had a lot to talk about so this was the perfect location or so it seemed.

The place was quite busy and I was honestly surprised we were seated right away.

The waitress came over after less than five minutes that we had sat down and asked what we would like to order. We definitely were not ready yet so we asked for a bit more time.

She came back after 2 minutes , she looked like she was trying to rush us due to the place being almost full.

We politely asked her to come back and give us some more time but I could feel there was some pressure from either the supervisor as I could see the looks they were exchanging.

If I have to be perfectly honest it almost felt like you were at some cheap venue where they want you to leave quickly! This is sad as I think this ruins the overall experience.

We ordered The Grand London afternoon tea for two with peppermint tea and early grey.

At this point I overlooked the fact that they were very clearly rushing us as they wanted to free up tables quickly. I was so excited to try their afternoon tea.

They brought the tea over first and there was nothing special about the tea or how it was presented.

The taste of my earl grey was very much underwhelming as they simply give you a small metal tea pot with tea bags which sit in there. The milk is offered on the side and the sugar was on request. The tea was also not hot but rather room temperature.

It was the most horrible tea I have ever tried.

I tried to finish at least one cup out of courtesy of the experience but I just couldn't.

They brought over the very known afternoon tea three tier plated tower. I could see it come over and could hardly contain myself.

When it reached the table, I was so disappointed it was so poorly put together.

The sandwiches just looked squeeshed and things were not clean and crisp. I didn't want to ruin my friends experience so I decided not to say anything.

There were 2 tuna and 2 salmon sliced white bread mini sandwiches. There were also 2 types of mini brioche bread sandwiches. I've had better.

I was excited about the scones which came with clotted cream and strawberry jam. Two of the scones had sultanas and two were plain.

The scones were not warm at all and like heavy bricks but I was too hungry at this point to give it a miss.

I then gave the top level tier a try which had a small selection of desserts. It had 2 macaroons, two cream cups and two fruits tarts.

After a bite I had to stop as there was this strong smell of egg.

At this point, I really wanted to use their bathroom facilities and oh lord!!

The bathroom was so disgusting and dirty. Let me add that's there was NO toilet paper.

I can't stress enough how throughout the whole afternoon they tried to rush us in order to free up a table.

Unfortunately I didn't enjoy the Afternoon tea at The Grand London in Piccadilly, the food quality was mediocre, the tea wasn't brewed to perfection, the toilets were horrific.

Let's not forget that the waiters and supervisor were putting a lot of pressure on us to finish everything off quickly.

Can you imagine doing an afternoon tea in a rush???

Very disappointing experience and customer service eventhough the supervisor or manager did try to be very professional at the end.

The worst part was that you could feel the pressure of needing to leave quickly and that defeats the object of having quality time in a beautiful venue like this one.

Other than the impressive decor there wasn't much else to praise. I don't know if The Grand London is aware that the exterior may attract clientele but great customer service and food quality will give you so much more.

I don't recommend this place at all. You will not get the expected quality given the price.

Have you tried The Grand London chain? If so, how did you find your experience?

  1. Sad that they were getting you to leave quickly. The thing I always enjoy wearing out is that you can take your time and enjoy the company.
