EXCLUSIVE : AT THE EXECUTIVE CHEFS TABLE PAOLO SABA AT THE OBIA RESTAURANT IN PURLEY

It is with great honour that me and my mistery B were invited to dine at the executive chef's table at Obia restaurant in Purley.

The Obia restaurant is an Italian Restaurant.

For those of you who don't know who the executive chef is at the Obia restaurant , it's Paolo Saba.

Paolo Saba has over 28 years of professional cooking experience. He has worked alongside Matthew Harris and Gordon Ramsey. Paolo has worked for the notorious Mr. Mohamed Al Fayed as a private chef, as well as for the Chelsea and the Fulham Football club. The list of celebrities who has worked for is extensive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paolo Saba is not only an executive chef but also A CELEBRITY CHEF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had the honour of being at his table.

For those of you who rather watch the video of our experience rather than read on.

THE OBIA RESTAURANT

The name of the restaurant was given in connection to the Sardinian Olive, Obia. The restaurant was created in order to bring the real essence of italian food to the area of Purley.

The decor is impeccable.

The restaurant front is a very modern shade of grey. They have a seating area at the front of the Obia restaurant which is perfect for the summer time.

As you enter the place on your left you will find that they have a beautiful bar which you can wait at before you are seated.

The colour theme of the decoration is a combination of pure elegance. They have greys, rouge and prussian blues.

The Obia restaurant have just inaugurated the back area, which has a completely different theme to the interior. It's an covered open area which is heated by heat lamps so rest assured that you can still keep warm.

It has a rustic wood theme, with a huge open area where they have an expert pizzaiolo which makes authentic italian pizza.

I particularly loved the fact that if you wanted you can dine a la carte inside with that beautiful luxe theme and yet if you wanted a more relaxed evening you can have pizza on the outside.

THE AMBIANCE

Just picture being seated in a beautiful setting with authentic italian music playing in the background.

It is such a worthy experience which exudes Italy from every corner.

THE FOOD

THE APPETISER

The waitress brought a Tagliere Misto which includes a fine selection of cured meats, smoked Scamorza cheese.

The cured meats included prosciutto cotto, prosciutto crudo ,mortadella and two types of salami. Together with the Tagliere Misto , a schiacciata was brought!!!!!!!!!!

For those of you who don't know what a schiacciata is, it's almost like a pizza garlic bread type of bread. It is by far one of my favourites, especially when it's served right from the oven!!!!!!!!!

The presentation as you can tell by the photo is just so well put together!!!

Definitely delicious , there is also a seafood type of option and a mix of the two if you are not a fan of curated meats.

THE MAIN

As the main we were brought the Linguini with prawns. What I particularly loved about this dish was not only the presentation but the refined flavours which included a hint of chilli and a twist of citrus.

This dish was to die for!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would definitely order it again! The flavours were addictive!

The plate it was served in was deceiving as the portion looked small, but then was I mistaken it was a good portion of food!!!!!!!!!

As I felt getting full I was tempted to put down the fork but I just couldn't!!!!! I WANTED IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!

This particular dish was my favourite by far and was the star of my dining experience with Executive Chef Paolo Saba.

THE DESSERT

We were brought a tiramisu and a praline semi freddo. The dessert at Obia restaurant is divine!!!!! They have the right balance of flavours when it comes to their dessert choice.

My personal favourite was the praline semi freddo as it wasn't overly sweet and yet decadent.

A BRAND WHICH IS ECO-FRIENDLY

I was surprised with the fact that they have eco friendly straws and only use produce which derives from animals that are not depleting.

This is particularly interesting as this is so important to be conscious of our environment and I can assure you that they are doing their part for the environment too.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE VEGETARIANS

All hail, an italian restaurant which caters to vegetarians providing a selection of options specifically for vegetarians!!!!!!!!!!

If you are looking for Italian food but done specifically for vegetarians I urge you to try it and let me know in the comments section below your views.

THE OUTDOOR HEATED PIZZERIA

In light of their inauguration we tried their pizza and I can happily inform you that it's delicious and cost friendly.

We had their DIAVOLA PIZZA which had spicy salamino, peppers and sun dried tomatoes.

If you are looking for a place that also does great cocktails and mocktails this is the hotspot for the area.

The barman created two wonderful mock-tails that were incredible, the literally on fire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One is the blue lagoon mocktails which is a sweet fizzy type of mocktail whereas the other was a porn star martini mocktail which a slightly sweet yet creamy passion fruit concoction.

FINAL VERDICT

The Obia restaurant is the perfect balance of elegance in both their food and their decor. I can't thank the executive chef Paolo Saba for this magnificent culinary experience.

I can't stress how much the food is authentically italian cooked with a refined eye and hand.

In terms of pricing, I was extremely impressed I would have thought they would be double of their actual price.

I highly recommend eating here.

The location is well catered with both buses and trains. There is plenty of parking surrounding the Obia restaurant so if you wanted to drive to the location you would have available parking in the area.

Have you dined at this Purley hot spot? What are your thoughts? Make sure to let me know below in the comments section.

This is a sponsored review however all views are my own.

  1. I went here and the staff is awful! They were so rude and abrupt. I didn't enjoy the vibe there.
